Skill Development - Continuous Shots
Continuous shots are sequences of shots that are taken by a camera as they shoot frames per second. This means that a photographer can have a series of images in a very shot space of time when holding down the shutter button when on the continuous shot setting. To get to this setting, you turn the camera on and go onto the setting/function button. Select the continuous shooting AF which means that the camera will also auto focus the shots when they are being produced. (Turn off manual focus first). Continuous shots are good if injected movement into images are wanted.
First of all, I kept forgetting to hold down the shutter button. This then meant that I only took one of two photos each time. For example:

These shots also featured a lot of 'white space' as the camera wasn't zoomed in. Therefore, a lot of the wall is apparent in the images. To improve on this, I can try and focus the camera onto the model so that she is in the centre of the image.
However, if this sequence worked and I did hold the shutter button down for continuous shots, then I feel that this sequence would be professional and high-quality. I think this because if this was a successful sequence, the bubbles would have drifted off into the air, which would be where the wall is dominating the image. This would be an improvement and this also means that the model wouldn't have to be in the centre of the image.
Another weakness of the shots was that the lighting wasn't that good in the majority of them. To improve this, I should go outside or into a lighter room so that the camera has access to more light. This would allow the lighter shots and will make my images better quality. However, the blank wall was a good feature to some of the images as it doesn't distract the viewer of the image from the focus of the image - the model and the bubbles. This is because the wall highlights the subject.
When carrying out this skill development, I firstly forgot to set the camera to continuous shot AF mode. This meant that some shots were out of focus. For example:
My target for next time, to avoid this issue, is to ensure that the mode my camera is set on is AF mode. This will mean that it won't be my sole responsibility to make sure that images are in focus.
However, I did develop my photography skills as I did successfully gain sequences of images that are continuous shots. Whilst carrying out this skill development task, we used bubbles and chewing gum bubbles to demonstrate the sequence of images that a professional photographer may gain when using this setting.
These 4 shots are a sequence and are in focus shots. They are high-quality as the sequence does flow and the lighting is better than some other image that I had taken. However, the background of the subject consists of high amount of detail and distraction. This means that the main focus of the image (the subject - model and bubbles) don't really stand out.
To improve this image, I feel that I should have a dialed down background that is quite plain. I also think that I should zoom in a bit more and make sure that I keep my finger on the shutter button to ensure that the amount of frames I produce per second is at its maximum.
Another good sequence that consists of 5 frames is:

I feel that these are good images because I have more frames in it than other times I have tried using the continuous shot mode. I also think that I have captured a surprised emotion in the first image, which is an added extra as it points to good photography.
I think that these images show that I have developed my photography skills in link with the continuous shot mode. This means that I can take shots of an alcohol related sequence for my Unit 3 Project easily by using this camera setting.
To work on this sequence more, I should have used the corridor door-way as a frame more my model. This would be using other skills that I had developed previously and incorporating them into these images to make them more professional.
Whilst carrying out this skill development activity, I successfully achieved the goals of the task by producing a series of continuous shot sequences that are high-quality.
The first sequence that I really like is a 4 frame sequence. I like these continuous shots because I have zoomed in and came close to the subject to really emphasise the growth of the bubble.
I have also featured other techniques that I have gained whilst carrying out previous photography skill developments. For example, aperture skills have been incorporated as the background is not in-focus, yet the subject is.
To improve and push these images further, I could firstly step back a little so that the models head is in the image instead of being cut out of it. However, this would only improve the image if the model is also the subject and not just the bubbles.
I could also try to angle the camera directly to ensure that the background doesn't look like it is misplaced or crooked.
I have also noticed that a high majority of my image are landscape and not portrait. For some images, portrait would be more suitable. Therefore, to develop my continuous shot skills further I could try a mixture of landscape and portrait images for the same subject and decide which one is most appropriate.

Finally, this is the last sequence that I really like as I think it shows the skills I have acquired.
There are 6 frames that are in-focus with the subject in the centre. I really like these images because it does successfully show movement as the bursting bubble is even captured.
To improve on these images further I can use a tripod. This is because I felt that I angled the camera on more than one occasion. This can be a target for me next time - use a tripod or practice the standing position when shooting.

I could also close the door of the classroom or move the subject to the left so that the background is all one wall or a solid, plain background. This means that the subject can be emphasised more.
I could also use tilts to add diversity and creativity into the images so that they seem more exciting. This can also be a target for next time.
